United kingdom electrician

I'm an electrician from england now living on oahu,and want to get into the trade over here, but i don't know how to go about finding employment as all the jobs seem to want licensed tradesmen.
I have looked into taking the journeymans license but there are no evening classes.
At the moment i am working in the food industry so no time for full time study.
I did a 5 year apprenticeship back in the uk ,and worked 9 years as a qualified electrician.
I don't know the code over here so even an electricians helper position would help me get started.
Anybody got any ideas?

I see a lot of ads for electrician or helper for solar companies,
